In the Southern mythology Tangaroa the great sea god, is called 'Takaroa', and that Papatuanuku is his wife. Papa commits adultery with Rangi while Takaroa is away, and in the resulting battle Takaroa's spear pieces Rangi through both his thighs. He then leaves so Papa and Rangi can marry.
